Take heart, friends!
OK. So no carobert updates in ... a long time. My bad. I've been keeping busy with my new job, buying a house, moving (again), and general life things. At the same time I had to change web services as my old one just stopped working one day (no notice, no refund, no nothing). Add nasty commenting spammers who filled up the comments with links to party poker and online drug stores. This leaves me discouraged.
But take heart friends! carobert 2.0 is on the horizon! Buzzwords and hype aside, I do hope to fix my shizzle to bring this site to greater, more functional glory.
The reality side is, I need some time. But be patient and it will come!

I will have more on the Rentals show coming soon, but as you can tell from my excitement, it was an awesome show that was a long time in the making and it did not disappoint. I also could not be out done by JB's celebrity encounter down under, though you might find these other encounters with rockstars entertaining. More awesome photos from the show coming soon.

Nacho Libre: Notcho Good
You try and you try not to get swept up in hype. But we are human beings, and humans love hype. I admit it. I thought Nacho Libre was the perfect storm of movies this summer, the writer of Napoleon Dynamite meets the comedic genius of Jack Black. The previews had me anticipating June 16th like no other date on the 2006 calendar.

Beavers National Champs!
I might be a little late on the bandwagon, but I must give a big shout out to the Oregon State Baseball team for their first ever national championship. The vast majority of the players are homegrown Oregonians, and they played incredibly back in Omaha. Now Corvallis is celebrating the big win, so give it up for the angry Beavers...

The Counting Crows Are BIG!
There comes a point in the career of a mega-musician when no stadium can hope to contain his or her ego. That is usually the point they self distruct on a leathal crack-cocaine-heroine-methanphamine mixture. That was the fate I feared for the Counting Crows as I entered the gargantuan Clark County Fairgrounds just outside of Vancouver, Washington.
I was surprised to see that the Counting Crows would play such a big venue when they seem like such nice people. Especially since nasty Ticketma$ter is picking your pocket at the gates. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, I laid my money down for the Crows, whom quickly become one of my favorite bands over the last two years. Read more...

Rainer Maria: Catastrophe Keeps Us Coming Back
Rainer Maria are one of those bands that you keep going back to. The band had three incredible, down-to-earth records to their credit that reflected their grass-roots formation. In 2003 they made a push to go big-time with "Long Knives Drawn", a "cross-over" to the mainstream with the single "Ears Ring". I never got into it. Lucky for us it failed. Read more...

Slacking...
...that is in regard to this website at least. In the "real world" things have been incredibly busy. The new job, new location, its all new around the carobert camp. The one thing I haven't managed is to get an internet connection at my new apartment, thus the absence of posts.
I dined with the Polish Gypsy over the long Memorial Day weekend, but not before he put us to work doing some yard work in his front yard.
This weekend is our annual trip to Seattle to see the basement dwellers battle it out for last place, Mariners vs. Kansas City. You all know I love the Mariners, even in these tough 'character building' seasons. More soon... I swear!

Move to the Country
That's right... the rumors are true. I'm on my way out of the burbs and into the country air of Corvallis. So does that mean the suburban mad-man is moving to a log cabin in the woods, growing a scraggly beard, and reading Louis L'Amour novels for the rest of his days? I think not my friends. Not yet at least. I will be continuing with computer geekdom and perhaps pursue some higher educatin'! Concert-going with most likely suffer being further away from 'the scene' but forget the scene. Good music rises from everywhere. Then again so does bad music. I guess you kind of break even on that deal.

Seven More... Years
In keeping with being "behind the times", I just found out that the Rentals (yes, those Rentals) are returning, as prophesied in the title of their first album. I don't know if I should be excited or if I should just let out a groan... Matt Sharp's solo career left me in shock as to how bad a song writer he really was. I hope the "Return" offers some better fair than the solo effort. And let's try to forget about that whole 7 More Minutes album too. [groan]

A Man Behind the Times
No matter how hard I try to be hip and cool, when it comes to TV shows, I'm destined to be the last to know about the best new TV shows. Take the X-Files for example. I knew they existed way back in 1995 during their first few seasons. However it took me until 2002 to realize how awesome they are (just be sure to watch them in order).
Then there is Malcolm in the Middle. I hated this show when it first came out because it pushed Futurama out of a prime time slot. Now I think it is the best show on television, albeit the new shows are a little past their prime.
And then my latest discovery, Freaks and Geeks. This was a very short lived TV show on NBC between 1999 and 2000. There were only 18 episodes made, but damn they're funny! The similarly short-lived TV show Undeclared featured many of the same actors, and was also incredibly funny.
All these great shows that were going on while I was blissfully ignorant... it kind of makes me wonder what's out there now? I don't think there is anything very good out there, My Name is Earl and the Family Guy have been suggested by others, but I haven't found them but mildly amusing.
So for now I wait for the next big thing to get old, boldly trudging forward in my ignorant bliss.
