The Glory Days of Punk Rock
What happened to the good old days when the punks hung out at the park and drank cans of cheap beer? I was taking the MAX (local public transport) to downtown Portland yesterday. When I got on, a rag-tag group of high school punk rawkers were sprawled out in front of the entrance. However, instead of smoking, or making fun of the square (thats me), they just continued their cell phone conversations! I non-confrontationally stepped over them and found a comfy, germ infested seat nearby.
The more I watched and listened to this group, the more saddened by the state of the punk rock I became. Sure they've got the piercings, the rhinestone laden jackets, and the strange odors, but they've lost the punk rock cause. As they texted their friends, and talked about stopping at Nordstroms on the way to the concert (I wish I was kidding), I wondered what Joey Romone might be looking down and thinking right now...
My message: Zebra-striped pants and spikey hair just aren't enough to make you a real punk rocker these days.

its called getting old, yur startin to sound like grampa simpson; but seriously, punk IS fashion, now, punk WASNT fashion, then. what can you do? once a designer sez oooh i like that i'll give all my models mohawks this year, it is over. everything once anti-establishment given thirty years becomes a gay fashion statement. and i dont mean that in a homophobic way. mohawks used to frighten middle america, now its just a super fun thing to do with your hair! just to be funky! cool! wooo!
f*** man this sh*t makes me soo mad because most of it is true. im all for the scene, which i honestly think is dead... most of what you said is true. people think that punk is listening to good chalette and all that bull shit. they also think that punk is a fashion and let me tell you its not. what happened to listenning to good ol music ie circle jerks, varukers, and all the good bands. and what happened to the message, whi i believe to be standing up for your rights, and fighting for what you believe. what happened to all of that. you fucking right when you say that the fashion isnt just enough to make you punk.... cuz its not. punk isnt a fashion, its an attitude....
i started crying one day cause i know its gone. the shows arnt what they used to be. they used to have a aroma of unity goin throughtout the small venues, now its like the kids now havnt even heard of the velvet underground. they dont even know the fuckin origin. its depressing.
