Nacho Libre: Notcho Good
You try and you try not to get swept up in hype. But we are human beings, and humans love hype. I admit it. I thought Nacho Libre was the perfect storm of movies this summer, the writer of Napoleon Dynamite meets the comedic genius of Jack Black. The previews had me anticipating June 16th like no other date on the 2006 calendar.
Defeat is bitter, bitter, bitter.
Don't get me wrong there ARE funny things about the movie. That is true. However there were a few points in the movie that even I was looking around the theater thinking 'What am I doing here?'. The premise was billiance, but the reality of the movie was mildly to moderately entertaining.
What am I too old for dumb comedy now? What is up with that?
Movie going is a fine balance of enough comedies to keep you laughing, but enough serious stuff to keep your mind sharp. Its like vegetables at the theater. If 'An Inconvenient Truth' is vegetables, then Nacho Libre is Bubblicious BubbleYum. Its got lots of flashy colors, and tastes great for a few seconds. But after the flavor is gone, its just bitter, bitter, bitter.
