Ben Lee

I'm so hot right now!

Website

I was introduced to Ben Lee when I worked at KSLC, and I played "Ship My Body Home" off of his album "Breathing Tornados". I thought it was a kind of annoying song.

Then I got a free sampler of his songs, which was a veritable "Greatest Hits" for the indie star, and around that time that I became a big fan. Only after listening to Breathing Tornados in its entirety did I understand that this was a great album.

Ben's albums are never predictable, from his early days of rather silly songs, to "Hey You, Yeah You" where he uses lots of drum machines.

The great thing I like about Ben is that he is a self-made man. He tours with his friends, and seems to be completely content touring and being a non-mainstream musician.

Breathing Tornados remains my favorite of his albums, as it seems to me to be the most cohesive and completely thought out of his records. There are lots of other great songs on his other albums, but they sometimes feel like they don't fit together.

I just got my hands on his latest album, "Awake is the New Sleep", and I'm enjoying hearing the studio versions of all the songs that I've heard in his concerts over the past few years.

I see Mr Lee will be in the PDX, the Doug Fir more precisely, when I return. See, you didn't miss out after all!
