Death Cab for Cutie

It's hard not to sell out when you're this good

In my days as a DJ at KSLC, I started listening to these guys and playing them on my Local's Only Show, which featured artists from the Pacific Northwest. The DJ on after my show, Carl (from the slow-core show), was really into them and urged me to play them. I think that "Title Track" from "We Have the Facts..." was my standby in those days, but I never fully appreciated Death Cab until The Photo Album came out.

The Photo Album was pivitol for me during my early months of my 2002 trip in China. It is an excellent album for describing winter, bitter cold and all.

I had high hopes for Transatlaticism, but it never came close to what The Photo Album or We Have the Facts.. achieved for me. Was it the move to the big label? The ever-more mainstream audience? Hard to say, but it never really clicked for me.

I've seen DCFC in concert twice so far, and wouldn't consider them as a great live band. I still like these guys, but hope that their next release is a return to their early sound.
